This is Tulip a 51 year+ Lesser Sulphur Cockatoo (2022). Ms. Tulip's original owner gave the bird to her grandson when she could no longer care for her. The grandson and handed the bird to his mother. The lady contacted me to inform me that she is taking her two Macaws but not Ms. Tulip and I can have her if I want. I immediately agreed to take her.
When Tulip came to the house she was in a tiny cage. She also had a wooden box with wooden balls on the bottom. The poor bird had been trying to hatch those balls for years. Her legs were bowed from sitting on the balls and she was not on the best diet eating mainly sunflower seeds and peanuts. I removed the box, bought a big cage and changed her diet completely to include daily fresh leafy greens, lots of vegetables, fruit, some nuts plus pellets. She took to the new food immediately. She hated her previous owner and was never handled, or let out of the tiny cage. For a small bird her bites were brutal. It took 8 months of talking, singing, feeding, getting bit but not reacting and just when I was ready to give up this old girl decided I am not so bad. Tulip is 2 years younger then me...we will finish this road called life together.
